PM reaches Japan to attend G7 Outreach Meeting
Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina reached Japan today on a four-day official visit to attend the G7 outreach programme where she will take the leadership role in four basic subjects.
Sheikh Hasina will attend the programme of G7 nations, a grouping of seven advanced economies, at the invitation of Japanese Premier Shinzo Abe.
The outreach meeting will be held in the central Japanese city of Ise-Shima in Mie Prefecture tomorrow. This is part of the two-day G7 Summit that began in Ise-Shima today.
A VVIP flight of Biman Bangladesh Airlines carrying the Prime Minister and her entourage landed at Chubu Centrair International Airport, Nagoya at 7:05 pm (Japan time).
Bangladesh Ambassador to Japan Rabab Fatima and Parliamentary vice minister for Foreign Affairs of Japan Miki Yamada received the Prime Minister at the airport.
From the airport, the prime minister was driven to a ceremonial motorcade to Hotel Hilton Nagoya where she will be staying during her visit to Nagoya.
Earlier, the VVIP flight of Biman Bangladesh Airlines carrying the prime minister and her entourage departed Hazrat Shahjalal International Airport at 10:15 am.
Finance Minister AMA Muhith, Industries Minister Amir Hossain Amu, Public Administration Minister Syed Ashraful Islam, Chief Whip ASM Firoz, PM Media Adviser Iqbal Sobhan Chowdhury, State Minister for Foreign Affairs M Shahriar Alam, Deputy Minister for Youth and Sports Arif Khan Joy, Dean of the diplomatic corps, Cabinet Secretary and Chiefs of the three services saw the Prime Minister off at the airport.
Daughter of Father of the Nation Bangabandhu Sheikh Mujibur Rahman and PM's younger sister Sheikh Rehana and Foreign Minister AH Mahmood Ali are accompanying the Prime Minister during her tour.
Besides, a 30-member business delegation, including FBCCI President Abdul Matlub Ahmed, is also accompanying Sheikh Hasina during this tour.
The four areas where the prime minister will take leadership role are related to health, women empowerment, sustainable development goals and cooperation for advanced infrastructure building.
Japanese Prime Minister Shinzo Abe, currently chair of the G-7, formally invited his Bangladeshi counterpart Sheikh Hasina on April 8 to attend the outreach meeting of G-7.
Today, Sheikh Hasina will attend the G7 outreach programme at Shima Kanko Hotel and deliver her speech.
She will deliver another speech at a working lunch with the G7 outreach leaders. The Prime Minister will have a meeting with her British counterpart David Cameron on the same day.
The Prime Minister will hold meetings with Sri Lankan President Mirthipala Srisena and Japanese counterpart Shinjo Abe tomorrow.
Later in the day, Sheikh Hasina will leave Nagoya for Tokyo by train. In the evening, she will inaugurate the new Bangladesh chancery complex in Tokyo.
She will have a breakfast meeting with leading Japanese businessmen and witness the signing of a memorandum of understanding (MoU) between the Federation of Bangladesh Chambers of Commerce and Industry (FBCCI) and Japan External Trade Organisation (Jetro).
In the afternoon, Hasina will attend a reception to be hosted by the Bangladeshi community.
In the evening, the prime minister will leave Henada International Airport for Dhaka. Ambassador of Bangladesh to Japan Rabab Fatima and Chief of Protocol of Japanese Foreign Ministry Kaoru Shimazaki will see her off.
A VVIP flight of Biman will carry the Prime Minister and her entourage is expected to reach Dhaka at 11:45pm.
The G7 is a club of rich countries consisting of Canada, France, Germany, Italy, Japan, the United Kingdom, and the United States.
A total of seven countries, including Bangladesh, will participate in the meeting. The other countries are Laos PDR, Indonesia, Vietnam, Sri Lanka, Papua New Guniea and Chand.
Besides, UN secretary general Ban Ki Moon, OECD secretary general Angel Gurría, World Bank president Jim Yong Kim, Asian Development Bank (ADB) president Takehiko Nakao and International Monetary Fund (IMF) managing Director Christine Lagarde will also attend the meeting.
