Patients suffer for lack of surgeons
Agailjhara Upazila Health Complex has been running without surgeons and anesthetists for long, causing immense sufferings to patients.
In most of the cases, critical patients were asked to go to Barisal Sher-E-Bangla Medical College Hospital (SBMCH), said Dr Altaf Hossain, upazila health and family planning officer (UHFPO).
In spite of having operation theatre and other equipment at the 50-bed hospital, no operation was conducted on patients due to lack of surgeons and anesthetists, said Resident Medical Officer (RMO) Dr Bakthair Alom, who joined the health complex 18 months ago.
As no operation has been conducted at the hospital for long time, critical patients are referred to SBMCH, said the family planning officer.
Only eight physicians, including RMO and UHFPO, out of 22 doctors are working here for so many patients, he said, adding that without a surgeon and anesthetist, most services, especially operations have been closed for a long time.
They informed the higher authorities several times but to no effect yet, said Dr Altaf.
“We trained some health assistants as anesthetists but this batch will come out next month,” said Civil Surgeon AFM Safiuddin.
“If we receive some trained anesthetists, the problem will be solved,” he said.
