OC's bid to save accused!
A schoolgirl abducted on July 24 is yet to be rescued while the officer in charge (OC) of Lalmonirhat Sadar Police Station omitted the name of an accused of the abduction case that was filed by the victim's mother, the woman alleged in a written complaint submitted to the superintendent of police (SP).
The victim girl, 12, daughter of Sitai Chandra Das alias Gourango and Shobha Rani Das of Teesta Pangatari village in Lalmonirhat Sadar upazila, is a Class VI student at Teesta Girls' High School.
The family filed a case against Shawon Islam, 19, son of Sirazul Islam Sera, and Jim Islam, 18, son of Pakhi Patwary, both from the same village in Lalmonirhat Sadar, on charge of abducting the girl while she was returning home from school on July 24.
“On July 26, the OC called me to the police station and pressurised me into signing on a paper where the case was recorded accusing only Shawon. Protesting omission of the name of the other accused Jim Islam, I submitted a written complaint to the SP the same day,” said the plaintiff of the case Shobha Rani Das.
“The main accused Shawon with the help of Jim Islam abducted our daughter. We urged Shawon's family to return our daughter but they replied that we will get her back with a child,” said the victim's father Sitai Chandra Das, with tears rolling from his eye.
Asked why he modified the case, Lalmonirhat Sadar Police Station OC Rafiqul Islam said, “Only Shawon was involved in abducting the schoolgirl but Jim was not connected with this incident. The victim family was not forced to sign on the case paper. Only the case matter was discussed with them.”
Contacted over mobile phone, Lalmonirhat Superintendent of Police SM Rashidul Haque said he will investigate the matter.
“If any accused is found to be left out in the case statement, he must be included as accused in the charge sheet,” he said.
