Nine Natore BNP men arrested
Police early yesterday arrested nine leaders and activists of BNP for their alleged involvement in shooting at a Jubo League rally in Tebaria of the district town the day before.
Two men of Jubo League and Bangladesh Chhatra League were injured in the shooting.
The arrestees are president of district unit of Jubo Dal Saiful Islam Aftab, 45, BNP activist Abul Kalam Azad, 62, Jubo Dal activist Anwar Hossain, 45, Jatiyatabadi Chhatra Dal activists Ali Asgar, 28, Habibur Rahman, 45, Sadikur Haque, 45, Shatar Kumer, 25, Kauser Ali, 18, and Sohel Anwar.
They were arrested in Tebaria and Baragachha areas of the town, said Mizanur Rahman, officer-in-charge of Sadar Police Station.
On Saturday evening, BNP activists allegedly led by Faisal Alam Babul, joint secretary of district unit of Swechchhasebak Dal, opened fire on the Jubo League rally near Mamun Bakery at Tebaria, said the OC.
Nazmul Islam, joint convener of Natore municipality unit of Jubo League, and Rajib Hossain, an activist of Chhatra Dal, were bullet-hit in the incident, the OC said.
Later, Nazmul and Rajib were admitted to Natore Sadar Hospital and Rajshahi Medical College Hospital respectively.
Rajib is now on life support at incentive care unit (ICU), said police.
