Nahid calls for social resistance against drug addiction
Education Minister Nurul Islam Nahid today called for forging a social resistance against drugs smuggling, trafficking, trading and addiction for safeguarding the young generation.
"We have to protect the youths from the deadly consequence of drug addiction and all of us should come forward and work together to this end," he further said.
He was inaugurating the destroying activities of various types of drugs valued around Tk 2.75 crore at the parade ground of Border Guard Bangladesh (BGB) in Rajshahi as the chief guest.
On the occasion, huge drugs like 59,700 bottles of phensidyl, 198 bottles of foreign wine, 1.54 kilogrammes of heroin and 96 yaba tablets were destroyed. BGB-1 Battalion seized those from the frontier lines in the district during last two years.
Minister Nahid said the present government is pledged bound to establish a drug abuse-free society and urged the BGB men and other law enforcers to enhance their anti-drug drives to bring the people involved in the drugs trading and trafficking to book.
He added drug dealers should be in the focus of the law enforcement activities and campaign while the community level interventions were needed to build a drug-free society to protect people particularly the young generation from deadly aggression of drugs.
The law enforcement agencies alone were not capable to combat the social disease but community participation coupled with family and social contribution was very important to this end, he further said.
Lawmakers Fazley Hossain Badsha and Akhter Jahan, Additional Commissioner of Rajshahi Division Munir Hossain, BGB Northwest Regional Commander Brig Gen Shahriar Ahmed Chowdhury, Sector Commander Col Motiur Rahman and Battalion Commander Lt Col Shahjahan Siraj were present on the occasion.
