Myanmar takes back 91 fishermen
Bangladesh today repatriated 91 fishermen to Myanmar, who were detained by the Navy for illegally intruding into Bangladesh’s naval territory on December 8 last year.
Members of Border Guard Bangladesh (BGB) repatriated the fishermen to the Immigration and National Registration Department of Myanmar around 11:00am after holding a bilateral meeting, our Cox’s Bazar correspondent reports quoting BGB and police sources.
The fishermen expressed joy for being able to return to their own country following the repatriation.
They said they didn’t face many troubles during their detention in Bangladesh jail.
Earlier, the home ministry took a decision to send the Myanmar nationals to their own country.
“The bilateral flag meeting was very much fruitful and resulted in a solution to the repatriation of the detainees,” said Lt Col Imran Ullah Sarkar of BGB Battalion-34 in Cox's Bazar.
