He came up with the claim while talking to reporters at Dhaka Medical College morgue today, a day after his family alleged that Hanif was actually picked up by a group of people claiming to be detectives in Narayanganj's Siddhirganj late last month.
The family also said more than two weeks after Hanif was picked up, several men in plain clothes and one in Rab uniform brought his brother to the house on March 15. They forced Hanif to sign two cheques for Tk 6.70 lakh, and then took him away, the family alleged.
“There was no case against my brother. I think my brother has been killed for his wealth. Money has been taken from my brother. If he would be freed, it could create a problem. If it is not true, then why was my brother killed?” he told the reporters while receiving Hanif’s body at the morgue.
Demanding a fair investigation into the death, he said, “There is a law in the country and my brother was not above the law. If he committed offence, then he could have been punished by being tried. Why has he been killed in such a way?”
Hanif’s friend Sohel Hossain Montu, who was accompanying him at that time, was also picked up and he is still missing, Hanif's family and friends claimed on Sunday.
Halim filed a general diary with Siddhirganj Police Station on March 4, stating that the two were held in Siddhirganj on February 27.
On Friday afternoon, Hanif was detained near Rab's Ashkona barrack where a suicide bomber blew himself up, Mufti Mahmud Khan, director of Rab's Legal and Media Wing, said on Sunday.
