The High Court today fixed March 30 for delivering a verdict on the bail petition of Tangail’s Awami League lawmaker Amanur Rahman Khan Rana in connection with freedom fighter Faruk Ahmed murder case.

Following the bail petition filed by Rana, another HC bench on January 18 issued the rule asking the government to explain why Rana should not be granted bail in the case.
The bullet-hit body of freedom fighter Faruk, also a district AL leader, was found on January 18, 2013. Later, a murder case was filed in this connection. Police found evidence of involvement of Rana and his three brothers in the murder, according to a report published in the Bangla daily Prothom Alo on September 14, 2014.
Rana, the AL lawmaker from Tangail-3 constituency, surrendered to a Tangail court on September 18 last year in connection with the murder case.
Rana and his three brothers have been expelled from the district AL on charges of various allegations.
During hearing on the rule yesterday, Attorney General Mahbubey Alam opposed the bail petition, saying that Rana cannot be granted bail in such a murder case.
Besides, Rana has got bail from the HC earlier on a writ petition, but he misused the bail, he argued.
Rana’s lawyer Advocate Abdul Baset Majumder prayed to the HC to grant bail to his client, saying that he is suffering in the custody for long time.
