Monu rail bridge repair starts
The authorities have started repairing Monu Railway Bridge on Dhaka-Sylhet-Chittagong railway in Kulaura upazila, following a report titled 'Flirting with danger' published by The Daily Star on January 4.
Visiting the spot yesterday, this correspondent saw railway employees replacing a few old sleepers and bamboo pieces there.
However, only five sleepers were changed yesterday, said a railway official.
Most of the 208 wooden sleepers on the bridge are worn out while a number of clips went missing, he said.
Abdul Karim Kim, convener of Songkhubdho Nagorik Andolon in Sylhet, said complete repair work is needed to make the bridge safe.
