MMCH shifts panicky patients
The authorities of Mymensingh Medical College Hospital (MMCH) started shifting hundreds of patients to different wards yesterday as cracks have developed in the walls of four wards.
The patients admitted to four wards (wards No four, seven, 14 and 17) on the ground, second and third floors of the hospital became panicky when they found huge cracks on the walls of the wards on Friday.
The wards are of the surgery, medicine, gynaecology and ENT departments, sources said.
The panicked patients came out of the wards and took shelter in the corridors of the hospital, hospital sources said.
The authorities held an emergency meeting with heads of different departments and officials yesterday and decided to shift some 600 patients to other wards, director of the hospital Brig Gen Md Nasir Uddin Ahamed said.
The patients will be shifted to paying wards and the hospital's new building, the director said, adding that the shifting will be completed by Monday.
“We have told the executive engineer of Public Works Department (PWD) about the matter, and they will start the repair work next week,” the director added.
Executive Engineer of PWD AKM Kamruzzaman said repair of four other wards is on and now four more wards have been added. The work will be completed by June next year, the engineer said.
