Malaysian High Court today sentenced a man to eight years’ imprisonment for murdering a Bangladeshi worker following an altercation two years ago.
The accused Ahmad Izwan Mohamad Yatim, 30, a former chef, admitted to the offence after the charges were reduced from death sentence, Malaysian English newspaper The Star reported.

The nationality of Ahmad Izwan could not be confirmed immediately. He had unintentionally killed Bangladeshi Emdadul Islam in a fight at a foreign worker's house along Jalan Pinang in Kuala Lumpur on July 9 in 2014, the report claimed.
Labour Counsellor Sayedul Islam, at Bangladesh High Commission in Kuala Lumpur, could not say anything about the incident.
According to the report, the accused Ahmad Izwan pleaded guilty to the alternative charge after it was read out to him by a court interpreter before Judge.
He was initially charged under Section 302 of the Penal Code last year but prosecution offered an alternative charge after several witnesses were called in during the trial.
The judge later sentenced the accused to eight years in jail, saying that although Ahmad Izwan did not intent to kill the deceased, an innocent life was lost.
Over four lakh Bangladeshis are working on different sectors in Malaysia.
