Man killed in B'baria ‘gunfight’
A man was killed in an alleged “gunfight” with detectives in Brahmanbaria early today, police said.
The deceased was identified as Kausar Bhuiyan, 45, son of late Abdur Razzak of Kandipara area in the town, reports our Brahmanbaria correspondent.
Being informed that a pick-up van carrying illegal drugs stationed near Vatshala Railway Station, a detective team went there, said Md Mizanur Rahman, superintendent of police (SP) in Brahmanbaria.
Sensing presence of the law enforcers, drug traders opened fire on them, prompting police personnel to retaliate that triggered a “gunfight”, the SP said.
At one stage, Kausar suffered bullet injuries and was sent to Sadar Hospital doctors declared him dead, he said adding that two detectives were also injured during the incident.
However, Kausar’s wife Rina Begum claimed that four policemen, including two in plainclothes, picked up his husband from his residence last evening.
