Mahmudur Rahman sued in C'nawabganj
A case was filed in Chapainawabganj yesterday against Amar Desh Acting Editor Mahmudur Rahman for making “derogatory comments” about Bangabandhu Sheikh Mujibur Rahman and Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina.
Advocate Yeasmin Sultana Ruma, president of the district unit Jubo Mohila League, filed the case under sections 123 (Ka), 124 (Ka), 501, 502 and 505 with the Chapainawabganj Chief Judicial Magistrate's Court.
After hearing, Judge Shariful Islam ordered Chapainawabganj Sadar Police Station to accept it as First Information Report (FIR), lawyer of the case advocate Mizanur Rahman, also general secretary of municipality unit Awami League, said.
According to the case statement, Mahmudur, acting editor of the Bangla daily, attended a seminar on restoration of democracy and role of media, organised by Bangladesh Democratic Council at the National Press Club on December 1.
While speaking at the discussion, Mahmudur termed Bangladesh as “a colony of India”.
Mahmudur said by forming Bangladesh Krishak Sramik Awami League (BAKSAL) Bangabandhu Sheikh Mujibur Rahman had destroyed the country's democracy on January 25 in 1975 and buried the media on June 16 the same year.
