'We are very frightened'
Locals are passing difficult times in Moulvibazar Sadar with schools shut, normal life hindered and business suffering for the ongoing anti-militancy raid.
“We are very frightened because of all the activity. We want to see the end of this,” said Ramjan Ali, a resident of Nasirpur where SWAT is striking a suspected militant den.
The area around the one-storied house in Nasirpur has been buzzing in action since this morning. It was under police siege since the wee hours of yesterday.
“Everyone is frightened here… schools shut, businesses closed, movement restricted,” said Sheikh Akhlish Mia, president Boro Kapon Government Primary School’s managing committee.
The school was shut for an indefinite period since yesterday for security reasons.
“I had to suffer a big loss for all this action. Now, my shop is closed,” said Raisul Ahmed, proprietor of Shahjalal Furnitures – a shop which is located near the scene of action.
Milton Mia, a local of adjacent area Boro Kapon, said: “Everything was normal here two days ago. Now, because of all the police, we are living in fear and uncertainty.”
Until now, there has been no clear indication as to when the raid will end.
