Land disputes leave two dead, five injured
Two people were killed and five others injured over land disputes in Benapole of Jessore and Sundarganj upazila of Gaibandha yesterday and on Tuesday night.
Our Benapole correspondent reported that a youth was stabbed to death by his uncle over a land dispute at Baropota village under Benapole Police Station yesterday morning.
The deceased was identified as Jamal uddin 28, son of Mizanur Rahman of the village.
Officer-in-Charge Apurbo Hasan of the police station said Jamal and his uncle Ramzan Ali locked in an altercation over the ownership of a piece land around 11:30am. At one stage, Ramzan hacked Jamal with a sharp weapon, leaving him dead on the spot.
While Ramzan and his wife Manu Begum were trying to flee, locals caught them and informed the police.
Police went to the spot and arrested the two. They recovered Jamal's body and sent it to jessore Medical College Hospital morgue for autopsy.

The dead was identified as Atowar Rahman, 55.
Police quoted locals as saying that there had been a long-standing dispute between Atowar and his causin Abdur Rahman, ex-armyman, over the ownership of a disputed land.
Family members of Atowar and Rahman picked up a quarrel over the issue at around 9:00pm. Hearing the news, supporters of the two came to the spot and locked in a clash, leaving at least six peope, including Atowar, injured.
Atowar succumbed to his injuries on way to the upazila health complex. Of the remaining five, two were admitted to the hospital while the rest given first.
