JS body for improving Biman’s luggage handling system
The Parliamentary Committee on Public Undertakings today suggested Biman Bangladesh Airlines to make its luggage handling system more time-befitting one.
The committee came up with the suggestion at its 31st meeting presided over by its Chairman Shawkat Ali at Jatiya Sangsad Bhaban in Dhaka.
At the meeting, it said the seat reservation system of the national flag carrier, Biman, was made 100 percent computerised and passengers now can see online whether there is any vacant and reserved seat.
Besides, Biman passengers can purchase ticket online using credit card.
Biman's net profit was Tk 276 crore in fiscal year 2015-16 as it made profit operating flights on most of its 15 international routes and seven domestic ones.
The committee also discussed unsettled audit objections of the Comptroller and Auditor General's (CAG) report on the Biman Bangladesh Airlines and the Civil Aviation Authority of Bangladesh (CAAB).
The parliamentary body suggested solving the audit objections over Biman and CAAB through bilateral and tripartite meetings.
Committee members Nurul Majid Mahmud Humayun, Maj Gen (Retd) Mohammad Shubid Ali Bhuiyan, Abdur Rouf and advocate Navana Akter attended the meeting, said a Parliament Secretariat handout.
High officials from the Civil Aviation and Tourism Ministry, Biman and the Parliament Secretariat were present.
