The Jatiya Sangshad today unanimously adopted a resolution to confiscate all movable and immovable assets of convicted killers of Bangabandhu and war criminals.
Ruling Awami League MP Fazilatun Nasa Bappy (Women Seat-30) placed the private member resolution in the House to confiscate all movable and immovable assets of convicted killers of Bangabandhu Sheikh Mujibur Rahman.
Making amendments to the resolution, two AL lawmakers Monirul Islam (Jessore-2) and Sanjida Khanom (Women Seat-24) proposed to confiscate all movable and immovable assets of those who were convicted of crimes against humanities as well.
The resolution was passed unanimously by a voice vote after Deputy Speaker Fazle Rabbi Miah, who was in the chair, placed it for a vote.
Prior to that Law Minister Anisul Huq in his speech said the parliament should adopt the resolution terming it very timely.
He said that his ministry has already initiated a process to enact a law to confiscate moveable and immovable properties of the war criminals and killers of Bangabandhu.
“I want to let this parliament know that a bill in this regard will be placed soon in this House,” he said.
Regarding confiscating Bangabandhu killers’ properties, Huq said at first properties of those absconding killers would be confiscated.
Properties of Bangabandhu killers who were hanged would be confiscated through enacting a law as their heirs inherited their properties immediately after their execution, the minister said adding that it will take a little time to do so.
But no law would be needed to confiscate the properties of the absconding killers, he said adding that the killers of the Father of the Nation have no right to own any properties in Bangladesh.
Huq said a task force has been formed to bring back the absconding killers of Bangabandhu.
Six out of the 12 killers of Bangabandhu have been absconding. Five killers have been executed while one died.
Meanwhile, International Crimes Tribunal convicted 50 war criminals so far. Of them, six war criminals have been hanged.
