JMB activist gets life, 3 acquitted
A court here yesterday sentenced a JMB activist to life imprisonment in a case filed in connection with the August 17, 2005, serial bomb blasts in the district.
Special Tribunal Judge Mohammad Rafiqul Islam handed down the verdict after examining records and witnesses. The judge acquitted three other accused in the case.
The convict is Jama'atul Mujahideen Bangladesh (JMB) activist Kamal Uddin, 30, a resident of Balijuri village in Netrakona, said Public Prosecutor ASM Azadur Rahman.
According to the prosecution, the JMB activists exploded bombs at different places in the country, including the Modhubon Hotel in the district town on August 17, 2005.
Moulvibazar Police Station filed a case under the Explosive Substances Act the same day. Police arrested Kamal and three other people in this connection the same day.
Later, the investigation officer submitted the charge sheet before the court.
