‘Int’l consensus against Rampal, for Sundarbans’
Eminent economist Professor Anu Muhammad today urged the government to move away from their stance and give support to those protesting against Rampal Power plant project.
There is an international consensus against the Rampal project and in favour of protecting the Sundarbans, the largest mangrove forest in the world, Anu Muhammad said.
The member secretary of the National Committee to Protect Oil, Gas, Mineral Resources, Power and Ports was talking at a conference ahead of their half-day hartal on January 26.
The committee on November 26 last year announced to observe the half-day strike in the capital on January 26 if the government does not scrap the Rampal power plant project near the Sundarbans.
If the government accepts the seven-point demand placed by the committee by this time then the strike will be withdrawn, Anu Muhammad said.
