Injured flight instructor dies
The chief instructor of Bangladesh Flying Academy, who suffered burn injuries in a training plane crash in Rajshahi last month, died early today.
Lt Col (retd) Sayeed Kamal, who has been the chief instructor of the academy for last 10 years, suffered 70 percent burn injuries in the accident that also left trainee pilot Tamanna Rahman Rhidi dead.
Sayeed died at Singapore General Hospital, an official of the academy told The Daily Star.
He was under treatment at the Singapore hospital.
On April 2, he was flown to Singapore from Combined Military Hospital (CMH) of Dhaka for better treatment.
The chief instructor was first admitted to Rajshahi CMH and was later flown to Dhaka.
Sayeed recived the burn injuries when the Cessna-152 crashed at Shah Makhdum Airport in Rajshahi on April 1.
The other victim of the crash, Tamanna, 22, was doing her first solo flight with just 15 hours of flying experience.
Investigtors and experts on April 2 said making a 180-turn well below the altitude required caused the aircraft in Rajshahi to fall out of the sky.
