Solma returns home
Solma Begum, who returned to the country after four years from a shelter at Hooghly in India, reached her father's home at Darier Kura in the district yesterday, much to the joy of family members, relatives and neighbours.
“We had thought that she was no more, and it is a miracle that my daughter returned by the grace of Allah,” said Solma's mother Rahima.
“We are so glad to get our mother back. We missed her during the last four years,” said Solma's daughter Sima Khatum.
“I am so happy that I could come back to my family,” Solma said.
Solma, now 38, went missing four years ago, after suffering from mental problem, said Solma's brother Asgar Ali.
"One year ago, I came to know that she was staying at a shelter of Hooghly in India. Since then, we worked hard to get her back.
“Many thanks to Commonwealth Human Rights Initiative, they helped a lot to get my sister repatriated,” Asgar said.
“Indian police and representatives of the shelter home handed over Solma at Benapole check post on Monday afternoon. As we were tired, we took shelter at my elder sister Hajra Begum's home in Bogra. From there we came home,” he added.
“I remember and thank Baro Di, madam of the shelter home, who cared for us all the time. I and four other women worked as domestic help, and we got adequate food and other amenities there,” Solma said.
“I will go to my husband who works as a day labourer in Dhaka,” said Solma, mother of They have two daughters and one son.
She did not remember how she went to India as she regained her memory only two years ago.
