Hold talks among parties to form EC, BNP to govt
Expressing doubt over the formation of a non partisan and acceptable new election commission, BNP today called upon the government to hold dialogue among the political parties in this regard.
BNP Senior Joint Secretary General Rizvi Ahmed said this at a press conference at the party’s Nayapaltan central office in Dhaka.
President Abdul Hamid on December 18 initiated holding dialogues with different registered political parties on formation of the next EC.
Abdul Hamid wrapped up the talks on January 18 after holding dialogue with 31 political parties.
President's Press Secretary Joynal Abedin on January 18 told The Daily Star that Abdul Hamid will now scrutinize the proposals submitted by the political parties and will come up with the next course of action on formation of the election commission soon.
Speaking at the briefing, Rizvi said, BNP hopes the government will hold dialogue with political parties for holding a free, fair and inclusive general election.
Lambasting Awami League General Secretary Obaidul Quader for his Thursday’s statement that there was no need to hold dialogues with political parties, Rizvi said, “His statement will lead country’s politics into a conflicting future.”
