Hit by bridge girder, train roof passenger killed
A youth was killed and another injured after being hit by a girder of a rail bridge in Akkelpur upazila of Joypurhat on Saturday.
The deceased is Md Nasimuzzaman, son of Abu Taher of Jankipur village in Mithapukur upazila of Rangpur district.
Injured Mamunur Rashid, 22, son of Ramjan Ali of the village, was admitted to Shaheed Ziaur Rahman Medical College Hospital in Bogra.
Family members said the two youths went to Dhaka to attend a recruitment test. On Saturday, they got into a Rajshahi-bound train to return home but the duo changed their train at Natore station and climbed onto the roof of the train.
As the train arrived near Akkelpur station in the evening, they were hit by a girder of the rail bridge on the Tulshiganga River in the upazila around 7:00pm.
Both fell to the ground and sustained serious injuries, said Md Sajjad Hossain, officer-in-charge of Akkelpur Police Station.
The injured were rushed to Shaheed Ziaur Rahman Medical College Hospital in Bogra where Nasimuzzaman died around 11:30pm, said the OC.
