High aman prices delight Patuakhali farmers
Farmers in the coastal district are delighted with fair price of aman paddy this year.
Now one maund of aman paddy is selling for Tk 700 to 750 in different markets of the district, which is fortunately lower than the actual production cost.
According to Patuakhali Department of Agriculture Extension (DAE) aman was cultivated on 2,10,340 hectares of land in eight upazilas this season.
Abul Hashem Hawlader, 45, a farmer of Amkhola village in Galachipa upazila, was very happy after selling 10 maunds of aman paddy at Galachipa Bazar for Tk 700 per maund.
“I am very happy as aman is selling at a better price than the previous year”, said Hashem.
Hashem said last year the paddy was sold for Tk 450 to 520 which frustrated the growers.
Good price of aman will help us to maintain our family properly as the fertilizer cost, rent of power tillers and labour cost were very high this year, said Anwar Hossain, a farmer of Tiakhali village in Kalapara upazila.
Abu Bakar of Auliapur village in the upazila said he cultivated aman on five acres of land and got 30 maunds of paddy per acre on average.
While visiting different paddy markets in Galachipa and Kalapara upazilas this correspondent found that one maund of Tepushail is selling for Tk 700 to 750, Kazolshail Tk 700 to 720 and Rajashail Tk 700 to 740.
Jahirul Islam, a buyer of Galachipa Bazar, said every year buyers from Natore, Dinajpur and Kushtia purchase aman on a large scale from different markets in the upazila.
