Halda sees fish spawning
Fishermen today started collecting released eggs, locally known as swarna renu (gold sperms), of indigenous species of carps from the Halda river in Chittagong early today.

The Halda, which flows through Hathazari and Raozan upazilas, is one of the world's major natural sweet water breeding spots of carps including Ruhi, Katla, Mrigel and Kaliboush.

“Some 300 to 360 spawn collectors in 105 boats started collecting the eggs in a festival mood around 2:00am (Friday),” our Chittagong correspondent reports quoting Associate Professor of Chittagong University Dr Manzurul Kibria.
