Greedy son's brutality on mother
When a festive mood prevailed in the area on the morning of Bangla New Year Pahela Baishakh, an elderly woman was seen crying beside a bamboo cluster as her son beat her mercilessly and drove her out of home at Kodalkhata village in Lalmonirhat Sadar.
The ill-fated mother, Ayesha Begum, 58, wife of Amir Ali of Kodalkhata, is undergoing treatment at Lalmonirhat Sadar Hospital after her rescue by relatives and locals.
She faced the wrath of her elder son Ashraful Islam, 38, as the latter failed to get a piece of land owned by her.
Ayesha Begum lives with son Ashraful at the village home while her husband Amir Ali took a second wife and started living at a neighbouring village 18 years ago.
Ashraful is a carpenter while Ayesha's another son Rashedul Islam, 32, works at a garment factory in Dhaka. Her three daughters were married off earlier.
"Ayesha works as a housemaid for survival as her sons do not provide her food. Lastly her elder son Ashraful physically tortured her on Friday," said Ayesha's elder brother Ahad Ali, 65.
"I handed over 21 decimals of our 30-decimals land to my two sons and kept the rest nine decimals under my possession. My elder son pressed me to give him the land," the ill-fated mother said.
“I live in the same home but my elder son Ashraful never takes care of me. And my younger son Rashedul does not give me anything except clothes,” she said.
“Ashraful beat me and threw me out of the house but I will not go to police station for lodging a case. Allah will do justice,” said a tearful Ayesha at the hospital bed.
"Ashraful has committed a heinous crime by torturing her mother. I am helping the poor woman to get treatment," said local union parishad member Abdur Rahim.
Resident Medical Officer in Lalmonirhat Sadar Hospital Dr Azmol Haque said, "The elderly woman got injuries in her legs, hands, back and head. Hopefully, she is out of danger now."
