Graft: SC asks forest minister’s wife, 7 others to surrender
The Supreme Court today ordered eight accused including Environment and Forest Minister Anwar Hossain Manju’s wife Tasmima Hossain to surrender to the lower courts concerned in connection with separate corruption cases against them.
The Anti-Corruption Commission has filed the cases against them as co-accused during the regime of military-backed caretaker government on charge of amassing wealth beyond known source of income.
The seven other accused are- former BNP foreign minister M Morshed Khan’s wife Nasrin Khan, his son Faisal Morshed Khan’s wife Shyama Sehzan Khan, ruling Awmi League lawmaker Kamal Ahmed Maumder’s wife Shahida Kamal, former BNP deputy minister Ruhul Quddus Talukder Dulu’s wife Sabina Yeasmin, late BNP lawmaker Nasir Uddin Ahmed Pintu’s wife Nasima Akter Kalpona, BNP leader MA Kaiyum’s wife Shamim Ara Begum and Jamuna Group Chairman Nurul Islam Babul’s son Shamim Islam.
The Appellate Division of the SC asked the lower courts to consider the petitions of Tasmima, Sehzan and Shamim for exemption of the corruption charges if they file after surrendering to those courts, Anti Corruption Commission’s lawyer Khurshid Alam Khan told The Daily Star.
