Govt begins process to block porn sites: Tarana
The government has started a process to detect and block websites that contain pornography, vulgar picture and video contents, State minister for Post and Telecommunications Tarana Halim said today.
The ministry initially planned to form a committee, with different stakeholders including intelligence and law enforcing agencies, to find out solutions in this regard, she said after a meeting at her secretariat office.
“Pornography creates huge problem in our society and our telecom division has taken it as a challenge,” the state minister said, adding, “The committee will detect websites and start process to block those.”
She said that the committee aims at finding out the solution to the problem, said Tarana.
“We also want to follow the good practices in different countries in this regard,” she added.
Director General of Bangladesh Telecommunication Regulatory Commission (BTRC) will head the committee to be comprised of representatives from law enforcing agencies, intelligence agencies, ICT division, telecom department and information ministry.
Earlier, last year the High Court directed the government to stop uploading and sending pornography and vulgar picture through to mobile phones and social media including Facebook and Twitter.
