'Free country from communal hatred'
Santal and Bangalee students yesterday at a programme at Shahebganj High School ground in Gobindaganj upazila pledged to build a Bangladesh free from communal hatred.
The United Nations Development Programme (UNDP) and local non-governmental organisation Abalambon organised the event with a call to establish human rights in the society.
The students also took oath to remove religious, caste and social barriers. They declared they would be fair in dealing with women and show respect to them and elderly and retarded people. They also promised to play a role in establishing human rights in the society.
Rangpur Divisional Cricket Umpires' Association President Wasiur Rahman Rafel, indigenous leader Gaur Chandra Pahari, Abalambon President Agriculturist Sadequl Islam spoke at the event with Headmaster Kazi Rawshan Hyder in the chair.
The speakers said education should aim at not only development of knowledge but also development in other aspects of life. There is no time lime for getting education, they said.
Later, the organisers distributed education materials among the students of the school.
