Free and fair polls held in 399 UPs: CEC
Chief Election Commissioner (CEC) Kazi Rakibuddin Ahmed today claimed that the elections in 399 Union Parishads, including 22 in the former enclaves in Lalmonirhat, Kurigram and Panchagarh, were held in a free and fair manner.
“The historical aspect of today’s election is to ensure voting rights of the former enclaves’ people of the three districts. They have franchised their voting rights in a free, fair and peaceful manner,” the CEC made the claim at a post polls briefing at his Sher-e-Banglanagar office in Dhaka this afternoon.
Voting of two centers was suspended as the law and order situation went out of control of the presiding officers, he said.
On the basis of reports of the election monitoring cell and media, the EC has initiated immediate measures to avoid any untoward incident during the voting, the CEC said.
The CEC has also thanked people who helped in holding the election in a fair and congenial atmosphere.
