Four JMB men placed on 5-day remand
A Pabna court yesterday placed four out of five suspected members of banned militant outfit Jama'atul Mujahideen Bangladesh (JMB), arrested on Sunday in connection with the attack on Pastor Luke Sarker, on a five-day remand.
Judge Rezaul Karim of Pabna Cognizance Court- 2 passed the order after police produced the arrestees--Ziaur Rahman, 35, Shariful Islam Tulip, 22, Alim Pramanik, 36, and Amzad Hossain, 30,--before the court around 11:00am.
Another arrestee, Rakibul Islam Rabbi, 25, was not produced in the court as he gave confessional statement before the Additional Chief Judicial Magistrate's Court on Monday.
Rabbi was among the three who attempted to kill Luke Sarker, 52, pastor of Faith Bible Church in Ishwardi upazila, by slitting his throat, police said.
Biman Kumar Das, officer-in-charge of Ishwardi Police Station, said police arrested the five JMB men from different areas on Sunday and produced four of them before the court seeking a 10-day remand. After hearing, the court granted five-day remand for each.
On October 5, Luke Sarkar was attacked by three motorbike riders at his house in Schoolpara area in the upazila. The pastor, however, survived the attack with minor injuries.
He filed a case, accusing three unidentified people with Ishwardi Police Station the same day.
Away in Sirajganj, a court on Monday granted a three-day remand for three suspected activists of banned militant outfit Jama'atul Mujahideen Bangladesh (JMB) in two cases.
Sirajganj Judicial Magistrate Court's Judge Supriyo Rahman passed the order after police produced the three--Idris Ali Akand, 26, Omar Ali Akand, 24, and Belal Hossain, 25—before the court, seeking a 10-day remand.
Police arrested the three from Raghabbaria village in Ullapara upazila while they were holding a 'secret' meeting on Sunday night.
