'Five gave confessional statements willingly'
The confessional statements of the five accused in Rupa rape and murder case were recorded under Section 164 as they willingly gave statements admitting their involvement with the incident, four senior judicial magistrates said in their deposition to the court yesterday.
The accused were given time for thinking after they were told that they would get conviction if they give confessional statement in the case, said the magistrates concerned.
The Court of Abul Mansur Miah, acting judge of Tangail Women and Children Repression Prevention Tribunal, yesterday recorded deposition of five witnesses, including senior judicial magistrates Shamsul Alam, Golam Kibria, Aminul Islam, and Rupon Kumar Das.
Shamsul Alam had recorded confessional statements of bus supervisor Safar Ali and helper Jahangir, while Golam Kibria, Aminul Islam and Rupon Kumar Das recorded statements of helper Akram, helper Shamim and driver Habib respectively under Section 164, in the case for gang rape and murder of law student Rupa Khatun on a moving bus in Madhupur upazila under the district on August 25.
Earlier, Mahbubur Rahman, a constable of Madhupur police, who took then unidentified body of Rupa to Tangail General Hospital for autopsy on August 26, gave his statement to the court.
The court fixed Sunday for recording deposition of the investigation officer of the case, said advocate Ataur Rahman Azad, district unit general secretary of Bangladesh Manobadhikar Bastobayon Sangstha, which is providing assistance to the state side in the case.
