Finish probe into ex-ETV boss’s sedition case: HC
The High Court today directed the police to finish investigation into the sedition case filed against former Ekushey TV Chairman Abdus Salam.
The HC also asked the lower court to consider the bail of Salam if the investigation officer cannot complete the investigation of the case in three months.
The bench of Justice Md Emdadul Huq and Justice Md Iqbal Kabir passed the order during hearing of the petition filed by Salam seeking bail in the case, Assistant Attorney General Aminur Rahman Chowdhury Tiku told The Daily Star.
He said police filed the case with Tejgaon Police Station on January 8 last year after ETV had broadcast BNP Senior Vice-Chairman Tarique Rahman's speech from London live on January 5 the same year.
Salam along with some others of ETV broadcast Tarique's statement which created an anarchic situation as it involved the chief justice, army and law enforcers, the case statement said.
In the speech, telecast several times on ETV, BNP Chairperson Khaleda Zia's son called upon supporters not to return home until the present government had been toppled.
Salam had already been arrested earlier from in front of ETV's Karwan Bazar office in connection with another case on January 6, 2014 and he was later shown arrested in the sedition case.
