Fellows demand immediate arrest of the killers
Students brought out a procession in the town yesterday, protesting the killing of a former leader of the district Bangladesh Chhatra League (BCL) and demanding immediate arrest of the killers.
They also held a rally in front of Mymensingh Press Club under the banner of Mymensingh Sacheton Chhatra Samaj.
“If the killers are not arrested within 48 hours, we will go for tougher movement,” they said.
BCL activists Rubel Ahmed, Sukanta Sen Monti, Nasir Uddin Hira addressed the rally, among others.
Ashfaq Al Rafi Shawon, 28, former vice-president of the district BCL, was shot in Mymensingh Zila Parishad area on February 26 when he was hanging out with some friends.
Son of Abdul Quddus, former secretary of district Jubo League, Shawon was admitted to Mymensingh Medical College Hospital and then shifted to a hospital in Dhaka, said Officer-in-Charge (Investigation) of Kotwali Police Station Khandaker Shaker Ahmed.
Shawon died in the hospital on March 8.
Police filed a general diary on February 26 but no case was lodged as of filing this report, he added.
Police arrested Sanjay Dutta, 26, SM Ariful Haque, 27, and Md Saddam Hossain Himel, 28, soon after the incident, and they were sent to jail through a court here.
