Faruk murder: MP Rana’s bail stayed for 3 days
The Supreme Court today stayed for three days a High Court order that granted bail to Tangail’s Awami League lawmaker Amanur Rahman Khan Rana in freedom fighter Faruk Ahmed murder case, blocking the way of his walk out of jail.
Chamber judge of the Appellate Division of the SC Justice Hasan Foez Siddique passed the order following a petition filed by the government seeking stay on the HC order.

The apex court chamber judge also fixed April 18 for further hearing on the government’s stay petition, as no lawyer for Rana was present during its hearing today, Attorney General Mahbubey Alam told The Daily Star.
He also said MP Rana cannot get released from jail until further order of the SC following its today’s order.
On April 13, the HC granted ad-interim bail to Rana and also issued a rule asking the government to explain as to why Rana should not be granted regular bail in this case.
Earlier, this court had denied him bail in the same case for four times on different reasons.
The bullet-hit body of freedom fighter Faruk, also a district AL leader of Tangail, was found on January 18, 2013. Later, a murder case was filed. Police have found evidence of involvement of Rana and his three brothers in the murder, according to a report published in the Bangla daily Prothom Alo on September 14, 2014.
Rana, the AL lawmaker from Tangail constituency-3, surrendered to a Tangail court on September 18 last year.
