Faruk murder: 2 more accused sent to jail on surrender
A Tangail court today sent to jail two more charge-sheeted accused in freedom fighter Faruk Ahmed murder case after they surrendered before the court.
They are former Jubo League leader Nasir Uddin Nuru and former councillor of Tangail Municipality Masudur Rahman Masud, close aides of lawmaker Amanur Rahman Rana, the prime accused in the case.
The duo surrendered before the First Additional District Session Judge’s Court in Tangail around 11:00am and sought bail, court inspector Anwarul Islam told our local correspondent.
After hearing, Judge Abul Mansur Miah rejected the bail petition and sent them to the jail, he added.
On September 18, main accused Amanur Rahman Khan Rana, AL lawmaker from Tangail-3 constituency, surrendered before the same court. He is currently being kept in Kashimpur Central Jail in Gazipur.
Faruk, the former publicity secretary of district AL, was found shot dead near his College Para house in Tangail town on the night of January 18, 2013.
Three days after the killing, Faruk's wife Nahar Ahmed filed a case with Tangail Model Police Station against unidentified criminals.
Police initially investigated the case, which was later shifted to detective branch of police in Tangail.
Law enforcers arrested Anisur Rahman Raja and Mohammad Ali in August 2014. During interrogation on remand, they disclosed the names of MP Amanur and his three brothers.
On February 3 this year, the investigation officer of the case, Mahfeejur Rehman Ghulam of Tangail DB police, pressed charges against 14 people including MP Amanur and his three brothers at the Judicial Magistrate's Court.
Of the 14 accused, six are now in jail, one is on bail and seven others, including three brothers of the lawmaker, are on the run.
