Faridpur baby no more
The newborn girl, who was saved minutes before being buried alive at a Faridpur graveyard, is no more.
She breathed her last at 11:45pm, said Dr Aftab Yusuf Raj, a consultant at Neonatal Incentive Care Unit (NICU) in Dhaka's Square Hospitals.
The pre-mature baby, Galiba Hayat, was undergoing treatment at NICU of the hospital under Dr Raj.
The baby was bleeding from different parts of her body and had several infections, Dr Raj told The Daily Star.
Earlier, on Saturday around 7:30pm, she was flown to Square Hospitals on a helicopter, chartered with funds received from an anonymous donor in Hungary. Her father, grandfather, and a nurse accompanied her on the flight.
Talking to The Daily Star, Galiba's father Nazmul Huda Mithu complained against the doctor who announced her dead saying, “Why was not she kept under observation?”.
He claimed that he thought the baby would not have infection if she was kept under observation after her birth.
Solaiman Shukhon, head of marketing of Aamra Networks Ltd, told The Daily Star that he arranged for the helicopter on behalf of a friend in Hungary, who does not want to disclose his name.
