Drowned boy's body yet to be found
A college boy, reportedly drowned in the Teesta river while bathing there along with four other friends at Kalmati village in Lalmonirhat Sadar upazila on Friday noon, remained missing as of yesterday noon.
A three-member diver team from Fire Service and Civil Defence conducted failed search for the body in the river on Friday, Saturday and Sunday. Family members also hired local divers for searching the body but to no result.
The missing boy, Touhidul Islam Shubho, 18, son of Shawkat Ali and Tahmina Begum Poly of Balatari area in Lalmonirhat town, was a HSC second year student of Lalmonirhat Government College.
Shubho's friend Hossain Ali of the same area said, “We five friends went to Kalmati village for bathing in the Teesta water on Friday noon. We all went to the water when Shubho suddenly drowned. We tried to rescue him but failed.”
Shubho's father Shawkat Ali said they conducted search with the help of local divers at least 60 kilometres in the downstream of the Teesta river but the body was not found.
“We don't know what happened to our son. I will lodge a murder case if the body is not recovered,” he said.
