Don’t mix up Qawmi madrasas, militancy: Home minister
Home Minister Asaduzzaman Khan Kamal today called upon people not to be over critical in recognition of Qawmi madrasas saying that it is a longstanding demand.
“It is an old issue and thus our Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina met the demand considering all aspects,” Kamal said while addressing a function at Jhenaigati upazila in Sherpur this noon.
Claiming that there is no similarity between Hefajat-e-Islam and Qawmi madrasas, Kamal said Qawmi madrasas and the militancy issue is not a similar subject.
“The two issues are quite different and it must not be mixed up,” the home minister said.
He said lakhs of students take lessons from Qawmi madrasas and the recognition was needed so that they can stand on their own feet.
Earlier, the prime minister formed a committee to resolve the issue and the recognition was an outcome of the committee reports, he added.
