DMP launches new GD format
In a bid to reduce public suffering for filing general diary (GD) with police stations, authorities today introduced a new format for all the police stations in Dhaka.
Dhaka Metropolitan Police (DMP) Commissioner Asaduzzaman Miah launched and supplied the newly-initiated forms to 49 police stations at a function in his office this afternoon.
Using the specific form supplied by the concerned police stations, people can file GDs easily without any hassle, he hoped at the inaugurating function.
He handed over the GD books, comprising of 200 pages for 100 GDS, to the officials of New Market, Kalabagan and Uttara (West) police stations at the occasion.
“Majority of the people have to suffer for filing GDs since there is no standard form, and they even have to pay Tk 200-250 for it,” he said, vowing to bring the practice to an end through launching the specific format.
Hoping that the initiative will help them eliminate misunderstandings between police and people, the DMP boss warned of taking punitive action if any police official is found receiving money from citizens who come to lodge GDs.
“The format will make the task for filing GD easy and transparent,” said DMP Joint Commissioner (crime) Krishna Pada Roy while briefing the programme.
Apart from filing up the GD form, clients can also submit hand-written or typed copies of their own version of GD, he said.
According to DMP officials, around 400-500 GDs, mostly by the law enforcers, are filed every day at different police stations.
