Dhaka seeks sincere engagement with Myanmar
The special envoy of Bangladesh prime minister today met with Myanmar leader Aung San Suu Kyi and conveyed a message on Dhaka’s honest and sincere engagement and forged closer cooperation with Myanmar.
Bangladesh Foreign Secretary Md Shahidul Haque, who is now on a 5-day visit as envoy of the PM, handed over the letter from Bangladesh prime minister to Suu Kyi, State Counsellor of Myanmar.
In the letter, Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina appreciated the NLD leader and the new government for its determined effort in consolidating democracy and building an inclusive society in Myanmar.
The foreign secretary also stressed on the need for an open and comprehensive discussion.
During the meeting in Nay Pyi Taw, Suu Kyi warmly reciprocated the message of the Bangladesh prime minister and stated that the two countries should face all challenges jointly.
She highlighted Myanmar government’s firm resolve to find solutions to the challenges in the Rakhine State and elaborated various initiatives undertaken by the new government.
Foreign secretary conveyed an invitation of Bangladesh prime minister to the state counsellor to visit Dhaka which she agreed to undertake at a convenient time.
Shahidul Haque later called on the Commander in Chief of the Defence Forces Senior General Min Aung Hlaing and U Aung Lynn, permanent secretary of the Ministry of Foreign Affairs.
