Demand release of Rasraj, Amnesty calls out
Amnesty International has called for action for immediate release of Rasraj Das who was arrested over the attack on Hindus in Brahmanbaria’s Nasirnagar.
The rights group yesterday issued a statement calling upon people to write to Bangladesh authorities demanding the Rasraj’s release from “unlawful detention”.
Rasraj Das, a fisherman with hardly any literacy background, was arrested on October 30 for allegedly posting a photograph on Facebook that hurt religious sentiments.
“On 28 November, a public report by the district police stated that the image had not been uploaded by Rasraj Das, but that someone else had used his Facebook account,” Amnesty said.
“A separate report by the National Human Rights Commission also cleared Rasraj Das of posting the image. Despite this, the charge against Rasraj Das has not been dropped and he remains detained in Brahmanbaria District Jail.”
