Death toll in yesterday’s landslide at Jaflong stone quarry in Sylhet rose to five after another labourer succumbed to his injuries this morning.

The deceased was Sadek Mia, 40, from Habiganj, reports our Sylhet correspondent quoting Additional Superintendent of Police Matiar Rahman.

Yesterday afternoon, four workers including a woman were killed in the landslide while extracting stones illegally from a trench in the quarry around 4:45pm.

Among them, only Nur Miah, 40, was identified yesterday. Today, the other three were identified as Jahur Ali, 65, his son Mujaheed, 21, and daughter Sakirun, 26, the ASP said.

Last November, seven people – mostly children – died in illegal stone quarries in Sylhet division in separate incidents.
