Criminal killed in Jessore ‘gunfight’
A man was killed during a “gunfight” between two groups of criminals in Jessore Sadar upazila early today.
The identity of the deceased could not be ascertained immediately, reports our Jessore correspondent.
The gunfire was exchanged near a petrol pump at Mathurapur village around 2:00am following a conflict over establishing supremacy in the area, said Elias Hossain, officer-in-charge of Jessore Kotwali Police Station.
The criminals left the scene when police rushed to the spot hearing the gunfight, the OC said.
Later, the law enforcers found a person lying on the ground with bullet wounds, the police official said adding that the man succumbed after he was rushed to a local hospital.
Police fired five bullets but the man was killed by criminals’ gunfire, Elias claimed.
One firearm and some bullets were recovered from the scene.
The body was sent to Jessore Medical College Hospital for autopsy.
