'Create jobs, reduce abuse of drugs'
Speakers at a press briefing here yesterday blamed unemployment for increasing abuse of drugs and emphasised upon creating employment opportunities for them to check it.
Drug abuse is increasing fast in the district and the young generations mainly are becoming victims. Thirty percent of the total addicts are children, they said.
There are only 13 official and employees working in such a big district like Tangail, which is very inadequate.
They emphasised upon removing all kinds of discrimination and negligence that can make the young generation frustrated as well as misguided.
Strengthening social movement for creating awareness against abuse of drugs, creating healthy environment for youths and formation of prevention committees at the union and ward levels headed by local public representations are also needed to solve the dreadful problem, they said.
The speakers urged the families to take care of their children by teaching them values, including family and religious values, and also brief them about bad effects of drug abuse.
They also urged the authorities concerned to establish a treatment and rehabilitation centre for the drug addicts in the district with all modern facilities.
The district information office organised the press briefing at Tangail Press Club auditorium at noon on the occasion of starting 'information campaign against abuse of drugs' in the district against abuse of drugs.
Khan Mohammad Nurul Amin, deputy commissioner in Tangail, addressed the press briefing as the chief guest.
Ali Haider Rasel, assistant director of Narcotics Control Directorate in Tangail, and Tangail Press Club president Zafar Ahmed spoke at the programme.
