Commuters suffer as bus strike on
People of six districts who generally travel by buses to reach their destinations are facing untold sufferings due to an indefinite strike started from Tuesday.
The strike was called protesting torture on a bus driver by the chairman of Pirojpur Sadar Upazila Parishad on Saturday, said Jhalakathi Bus Sramik Union Secretary Md Bahadur.
Commuters of Barisal, Jhalakathi, Pirojpur, Khulna, Bagerhat and Barguna are the worst sufferers of the strike.
“I need to go to Khulna urgently but did not find any vehicle,” said Nila who was waiting at Jhalakathi bus stand yesterday.
“I had to pay five times more fare than usual for going to my college at Rajapur,” said lecturer Maksuda Akhter.
The strike will continue until the torturer is brought to justice, said workers of the union.
