Businessman rescued 7 days into abduction, three held
The Detective Branch (DB) of police rescued an abducted businessman from Char Adhpakhia in Muktagachha upazila of the district early yesterday.
They also arrested three people for their alleged involvement in the abduction.
The arrestees are Ripon Miah, 28, his wife Fahima Khatun, 22, and their accomplice Rijon Miah, 25, of the area.
Ripon, an apparel businessman, knew rescued businessman Momin Hasan, 30, owner of Uday Sweater at Yeasin Market of Uttara in Dhaka, for long, said Imarat Hossain Gazi, officer-in-charge of DB police in Mymensingh.
On April 13, Momin came to a mosque of Police Lines Uttara Residential area in the district town with a Tabligh Jamaat.
Ripon then invited Momin to visit his house in Muktagachha upazila and called him out of the mosque on Monday noon.
When Momin went out of the mosque, a gang abducted him and took him to Ripon's house at Char Adhpakhia in the upazila.
The abductors demanded Tk 2 lakh ransom from Momin's family over mobile phone on the same day. Police was later informed about the matter.
After tracking phone calls, the law enforcers raided the area and rescued Momin. They also arrested the three from the spot.
Momin filed a case with Kotwali Police Station against eight people, including the arrestees.
They are raiding different areas to arrest the other accused, said the OC.
