Boy brutally tortured in Rajshahi
A 12-year-old boy was tortured brutally by some transport workers allegedly for damaging CD wires of a bus at Puthia upazila of Rajshahi today.
The workers also tied the boy, identified as Nazmul Haque, 12, of Baroipara village in the upazila, with rope, cut his hair and inked his face with burned lubricant, reports our Rajshahi Staff Correspondent quoting police and witnesses.
On information, police rescued the boy and handed him over to his father after taking his statement, said Rakibul Hasan, officer-in-charge (investigation) of Puthia Police Station.
Torture marks were seen on the hands and other body parts of the boy and his hair was also partially cut, the police official said.
“We primarily investigated the matter and found evidence of torture. We will look into the matter when the victim’s family files a complaint,” the OC said.
He, however, said that that he doesn't know whether the victim’s family would file any case.
The victim’s father Hafizur Rahman said he could not afford running a case.
Rahman said his son worked as a helper of a bus of ‘Sabbir Paribahan’. Haque went to Khan Filling Station in the upazila town where the bus was garaged on Monday evening and passed the night inside the bus.
“Some bus staff started beating him for allegedly damaging the wires of the CD player of the bus around 3:00am. They kept him tied with a truck till the dawn. Later around 7:00am, the bus staff beat him again, cut his hair and inked his face with black lubricant,” the father alleged.
“My son is still crying and claiming his innocence”, he told The Daily Star this afternoon.
