Biman scraps Nepal flight for hajj pilgrims
Biman Bangladesh Airlines was forced to cancel its Nepal-bound flight today and diverted it to send aspirant hajjis to Saudi Arabia, a Biman official has said.
“The Nepal-bound flight was scheduled to leave Hazrat Shahjalal International Airport at 11:30am,” Motahar Hossain, general manager flight operation (central control), told The Daily Star.
There were no other option but to cancel Biman’s Nepal flight as today is the last date to send all the pilgrims to Saudi Arabia before midnight, Motahar Hossain said.
“All the 46 passengers will be carried tomorrow at the same time,” he said adding that today’s flight will be used to transport the hajjis instead.
“Fate of around five hundred pilgrims hang in balance as Biman has no capacity to carry them to Saudi Arabia in the dedicated hajj flights,” a top Biman official said.
A total of 1.1 lakh pilgrims are scheduled to perform Hajj from Bangladesh this year.
