Biman asks hajj pilgrims to confirm tickets by Tuesday
Pilgrims who wish to fly to Saudi Arabia for hajj via Biman Bangladesh Airlines must confirm their tickets by tomorrow, the state-run carrier said today.
Tickets will be available until 5:00pm tomorrow, said Syed Ahsan Hossain Kazi, Biman’s general manager, in a statement today.
Biman has incurred huge losses after the cancellation of 15 hajj flights to Mecca since August 4, said AM Mosaddique Ahmed, managing director and CEO of the institution.
The Biman and Saudia Airlines are expected to operate 144 and 107 Hajj flights from Bangladesh. The two airlines have been selected by the government for transportation of hajj pilgrims.
The hajj is likely to be performed on September 12, subject to sighting of the moon. A total of 1,01,758 Bangladeshis are expected to perform Hajj this year. Only 10,000 of them would perform the holy ritual under government management and the rest under private management.
The outbound flights would continue till September 5 and the return flights would begin on September 17.
